9.09/10 — Unique, immersive, and unmistakably Tame Impala. There is just something that consistently draws me back to Tame Impala albums, and Lonerism is a perfect example. The songs, production, and overall style feel completely and uniquely their own. It’s psychedelic, rock, pop, electronic, and a dozen other things at once, but somehow it doesn’t really fit neatly into any one category. What I love about Tame Impala is the way Kevin Parker takes elements from so many different styles and merges them into something that feels almost entirely new. You can hear the influences, but by the time they’ve been filtered through his songwriting and production, they’ve become something distinctly Tame Impala. Lonerism is immersive in a way that makes it difficult to casually listen to—it pulls you into its own world. Tracks like “Feels Like We Only Go Backwards,” “Elephant,” and “Mind Mischief” showcase that strange combination of psychedelic textures, infectious melodies, and introspective songwriting that makes Tame Impala so compelling. 9/10 — an album that doesn’t really belong to one genre because it feels like its own genre. There’s just something about Tame Impala that keeps drawing me back, and Lonerism is one of the best examples of why.
