Childish Gambino

Sprawling and moody, a rapper working through fame and isolation instead of just showing off. Gambino leans into a looser, more atmospheric sound here, jazz fills and dubby textures replacing straightforward boom bap, the whole thing built around this accompanying screenplay about disconnection online. 3005 and Sweatpants carry the melodic side, catchy without losing the underlying unease. Worldstar sets the tone early, chaotic and a little unsettling right from the jump. Doesn't always cohere as a pure rap album, more like a concept piece you sink into. Ambitious and moody, the sound of an artist reaching further than expected.
