9.0The Mountain feels less like a record about death than one about what comes after it: grief, transformation, and the need to keep moving. Gorillaz absorb the sounds and spirituality of India into their own language, blending them naturally with hip-hop, indie and R&B without ever losing their identity. Its best songs are not necessarily built to stand alone.. they become extraordinary because of the journey the album creates from beginning to end. The accompanying handmade short film completes that idea beautifully: a genuinely human piece of animation that feels almost defiant in an era increasingly flooded with AI-generated imagery. A deeply personal, beautifully crafted album that rewards being experienced as a whole. 9.0/10
