8.4Opens with a 1970s cassette of her mother singing and closes by returning to it. Recorded largely live at Studios Opus in L'Assomption, and you can hear the room: air around the piano, a trumpet that appears and fades. The mid-album tempo can flatten out, but Rhythm of Nature, nine minutes in a single take, justifies the patience it asks for. The moment she stopped proving anything.
