For all his brilliant work, this is the Neil I come back to most frequently. No bombast, distortion or long jams. Just an artist at the peak of his powers, an acoustic guitar and a piano. Absolutely beautiful, and the recording quality is shockingly good.
Raw, Mancunian swagger and incredible songwriting. It’s hard to believe now just how out of nowhere the Gallaghers came, but they went from playing obscure clubs in Scotland to headlining massive festivals in like 6 months. That’s how good this album was.
I go back and forth between the stones golden era albums on which is my favorite. I’m not sure there’s a wrong answer, but this is definitely among the right ones.
My parents loved Billy Joel when I was a kid. Hasn’t aged well for me - feel like the more I learned about him over the years the harder his music was to like.
U2 isn’t everybody’s cup of tea, but this is them at their best. Bonus points if you can listen to this in Joshua Tree. The big, open, atmospheric arrangements work well with the desert.
