The multiverse is real. Somewhere, this is the record Julie Delpy has picked up in Alt & Neu.

Garden of DreamsAli Akbar Khan

Autumn meant recurring flu seasons during my undergrad. I was 18, a state away home, living in a campus that was eerily isolated. My roommate would go back home leaving packets ready-to-eat food on my desk with the dwindling hope that once I wake up well past noon, I’ll try and feed myself. I spent years worth of autumn-afternoons by the big, lanky windows of our 4th floor corridor. Squatting on the cold floor, sweating the fever out, eating out of a plastic cup; to this album. This album and Hariprasad Chaurasia’s “Call of the Valley.” The evening heat would eventually lull me back to sleep. The album ends with a Bhairavi, but my auto-loop would restart the entire album again with Two Lovers (Mand). I’d think of my mother’s block print curtains and her cold, soft hands as the fever would shyly, get the best of me again.
