8.7Uneasy, hypnotic, and somehow his most fully realized solo work yet. Beats stitched together out of half finished ideas rather than smoothed over, giving the whole thing this restless, fragmented pulse that never quite settles. Dawn Chorus is the clear peak, hushed and devastating, the kind of song that threatens to overshadow everything else on the record just by existing. The rest holds up around it too though, dystopian and anxious but with real warmth buried underneath, dance rhythms doing more emotional work than you'd expect. Feels like Yorke finally stepping fully into his own vision, out from under Radiohead's shadow. Bleak, beautiful, and completely his own.
