Some records you admire. This one I've just lived alongside. It takes its time and asks the same of you: seven minutes here, nine there, keyboards stacked into rooms you can walk around inside, Smith's voice arriving so late in Plainsong that the wait becomes part of the song. Grief and infatuation and self-pity all sound identical in here, which is either a flaw or the whole point depending on your mood. I've been listening to it for decades now, and I've never once put it on out of nostalgia. In my top 5 of all time.
