I was there, and it remains one of the best concerts of my life. Their first ever show in Portugal had that rare feeling that something special was happening in the room. The connection between the band and the crowd was incredible, feeding each other from beginning to end. DMB were tight, adventurous and clearly enjoying themselves. Live Trax Vol. 10 is more than a great live album for me — it’s the recording of a night I’ll never forget.

Samuel Úria has that rare ability to sound deeply Portuguese without ever feeling old-fashioned. 2000 A.D. is clever, intimate and beautifully written, mixing folk, rock and sharp songwriting with his unmistakable voice. The lyrics deserve attention: funny, poetic and sometimes uncomfortable. A record that gets better with every listen. One of the best acts right now in Portugal

Mahler’s symphonies feel less like music and more like entire worlds. Huge, dramatic, beautiful, sometimes terrifying and often overwhelming. From the youthful First to the devastating Ninth, this is music about life, death, nature, love and everything in between. Not easy listening, but incredibly rewarding. What a great album

Twilight Override feels like Jeff Tweedy doing exactly what he wants, with nothing left to prove. Warm, loose, sometimes messy, but always human. There are albums that are important because they were successful, and then there are albums that became important almost by accident. 40 Years of the Incredible Bongo Band is a perfect reminder of just how enormous the legacy of Michael Viner’s Incredible Bongo Band became. And, of course, everything eventually leads to “Apache.” Originally written by Jerry Lordan and famously recorded by The Shadows, “Apache” was transformed by the Incredible Bongo Band into something completely different: a furious, percussion-heavy instrumental built around one of the most influential drum breaks in popular music. What followed is extraordinary. The track became one of the most sampled recordings in history and, more importantly, one of the fundamental building blocks of hip-hop. In the Bronx during the 1970s, DJs such as Kool Herc discovered that the percussion break in “Apache” was perfect for extending with two turntables, keeping dancers moving while MCs performed over it. That break became so central to early hip-hop culture that “Apache” has often been described as hip-hop’s national anthem. Its DNA can be heard across decades of rap, breakbeat, electronic music and pop. But reducing the Incredible Bongo Band to one legendary break would be unfair. This collection shows just how strange and exciting the project was: cinematic arrangements, funk, rock, soul, huge percussion and an almost reckless amount of energy. It sounds like musicians having enormous fun without realising that future generations would be dissecting every few seconds of their recordings. That is perhaps what makes this album so fascinating. You are not simply listening to old instrumental funk. You are listening to part of the genetic code of modern music. A stunning, soul-stirring return, this record proves Anohni simply does not know how to make a bad album. Her work ranges from very good to absolute masterpieces, and this one is incredible. Shifting away from heavy electronics, she embraces warm, guitar-driven soul that lets her unmatched, trembling voice shine with pure, devastating beauty. This more soulfoul sound came (a read this somewhere) from Marvin Gaye.

A total punch to the gut, Javelin brings Sufjan back to his acoustic folk roots in the most devastating way. He layers big, swelling choral vocals over quiet guitar picking, making the whole thing feel massive yet painfully personal.It’s a deeply fragile masterpiece dedicated to his late partner. The way he mixes heavy grief with sudden sparks of hope leaves you completely wrecked but somehow comforted by the end.

A haunting masterpiece, this is exactly how I first discovered Johnny Cash, stepping right into his late-career Rick Rubin era. The album is packed with absolute gems, led by his legendary, bone-chilling cover of Hurt. Hearing this raw, stripped-back brilliance made me dive straight into his chaotic past, and that’s when his whole story finally clicked for me.

Pure haunting magic! This record easily sits in my all-time top ten recommendations. It is honestly one of the greatest albums I have ever heard. Plant’s iconic, raspy rock vocals blend beautifully with Krauss’s angelic bluegrass harmonies, creating a dark, mystical atmosphere.The slow, acoustic arrangements make every track feel incredibly intimate and profound. Everytime i need some joy and beauty in my life, I go back to this one.

Every note carries a haunting, timeless romance that lingers long after midnight. The first song is one of my favorite ever!

What a great album, once Harry Connick Jr. was the new Sinatra, at the time he made this album I can understand the relation. If you like big bands, this one is a plus! Great movie btw

Forget the tedious debates about whether this is true hardcore punk. The reality is much simpler: this album is an absolute thrill. Turnstile ignores rigid genre boundaries, seamlesly blending 90s alternative pop vibes with stadium-sized rock anthems. Even their fastest, heaviest tracks are polishe with an infectious, accessible sheen. Purists might complain, but everyone else is too busy smiling and jumping into the mosh pit. :)

Love’s ability to unravel and rebuild us shapes the wise fourth album from this young New York garage rock band. Formed in a Brooklyn music school, their deep connection fuels a rare magic: subtle chord changes pack immense emotional weight, blending tight grooves with wild, free-flailing energy. Cameron Winter’s soulful, reedy head voice and peerless lyrics anchor the record. Though striving for a higher frequency, he remains grounded by heartbreak and circumstance, glumly pouting on Bow Down: “I was a sailor, and now I’m a boat / I was a car, and now I’m the road.” Uau!!!

When I first heard this album, I got that feeling I love when listening to something new (at least to me) for the first time—it happened with Arcade Fire's *Funeral* and Wilco's *Sky Blue Sky*. I was blown away by the sonic variety, the lyrics, and the album's entire atmosphere. It’s one of those albums where every track is good, but some are exceptional.

An album full of gems—"Born in the U.S.A.," as everyone knows, may well be one of the most misunderstood songs of all time; it seems like a call to hollow patriotism, but it is actually a protest song. Other tracks became classics, such as "No Surrender," "Glory Days," etc. Great record.

I discovered Residente a few years ago. My nephew introduced me to him, and since then we’ve become, in quotation marks, “friends.” We’re talking about an artist I had never even heard of before. He comes from a hip-hop world — especially Latin hip-hop — where I don’t really know many of the big names, and he has turned out to be one of the best things anyone has introduced me to. He’s an artist with four Grammys and 27 Latin Grammys, with a strong social conscience. He’s very controversial, sometimes quite disturbing in his lyrics, but always extremely sharp and incisive. His latest album — he has two solo albums, one from 2017 and this one from 2024 — is the one I’m writing about. Before going solo, he was part of a band called Calle 13, but I’m talking specifically about his solo career. Overall, this is a very good album, but there’s one song in particular, “313,” that is a work of art. I honestly can’t think of a better way to describe it. The lyrics, the music, the collaborations — everything about it is exceptional. I also strongly recommend watching the music video for this song. It’s a work of art. I genuinely think it’s one of the best things I’ve seen and heard in the last few years.

It’s a wonderful album, with some truly extraordinary songs. One track that stands out in particular is “Como Dios Manda,” which is absolutely magical — it comes close to perfection. The duet with Comisario Pantera In “ aMar y Vivir” is also very good, and the duet with Noel Schajris on “Ódiame” is equally strong. The whole album is well worth listening to, and so is this band, which they describe as Mexican-American.

Just wow!! First álbum? 😍

This 2018 album, Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino, feels like an experiment for Arctic Monkeys, and I think it worked. I’m more of a fan of their rawer, more rock-driven sound, but this was still a successful departure and it resulted in an excellent album.

It’s one of my favorite albums of all time. It has something I love, an innocence you only get on a debut album, from a band that just wanted to play rock. It’s an album I listen to from start to finish. There isn’t a single bad track. I honestly think it’s one of the best rock albums of the last 20 or 30 years.

What impresses me most about this album is just how raw it is. I think Jon loves music, but couldn’t care less about the process of producing it. I’m not even sure why I say that — it’s just the feeling I get. I discovered him on a road trip across the US, and in Austin I got to see him live at the Continental. Pure, hard, raw stuff. Real music. And by “real,” I mean it sounds original and sincere.

This is one of those albums you listen to from start to finish. It’s special to me because it was given to me by a friend who has introduced me to a lot of bands over the years — and he’s always got it right. When he gave me this one, I thought, “This isn’t really my thing. You’re going to miss the mark for the first time…” Not only did he not miss — he absolutely nailed it. It’s a very beautiful album. “Beautiful” really is the perfect word for it.
