9/10 — A groundbreaking debut that changed hip-hop. The College Dropout was more than a great debut—it announced Kanye West as one of the most important voices in hip-hop. His soulful production, clever sampling, vulnerability, and willingness to challenge the expectations of a mainstream rapper made the album feel completely different from what was dominating the genre at the time. Tracks like “Jesus Walks,” “Through the Wire,” “All Falls Down,” and “Slow Jamz” showed Kanye could be introspective, funny, ambitious, and deeply personal all at once. Its influence on both the sound and subject matter of mainstream hip-hop is undeniable. Not quite a perfect album, but undeniably a classic—and a very strong 9/10.
