9.5/10 — A phenomenal debut and one of the great rock albums of the ’90s. Definitely Maybe is Oasis arriving fully formed—loud, confident, swaggering, and packed with the kind of anthemic rock songs that would soon make them one of the biggest bands in the world. It has some of my absolute favorite Oasis songs, particularly “Live Forever” and “Rock ’n’ Roll Star,” both of which perfectly capture the attitude and ambition that defined the band. What makes the album so impressive is how consistently good it is from beginning to end. There’s a rawness and energy here that feels unmistakably Oasis, with huge guitars, memorable melodies, and Liam Gallagher’s unmistakable voice tying it all together. For me, though, it falls just a little short of What’s the Story) Morning Glory? IMHO. Morning Glory feels like the more complete and polished album, with an almost impossible run of iconic songs. But that’s a very high bar. 9.5/10 — an outstanding debut, loaded with some of my favorite Oasis songs and one of the essential albums of the Britpop era. Just a half-step behind Morning Glory, but still absolutely brilliant.

What is was like to be poor in the UK in the late 80’s but didn’t matter as you had the attitude of feeling supersonic no matter economic circumstances. Translated well to this reviewer during the same time period. The great antidote to cringey grunge.

Raw, Mancunian swagger and incredible songwriting. It’s hard to believe now just how out of nowhere the Gallaghers came, but they went from playing obscure clubs in Scotland to headlining massive festivals in like 6 months. That’s how good this album was.
