One of the rare albums out there without any songs that you want to skip from time to time. And of course: banger after banger, and an iconic blueprint for the indierock scene of the 2000s. I wish The Strokes would have stayed this consistent on their other records.

8.5/10 — A great album, a personal time capsule, and one of The Strokes’ defining records. Is This It captures a very specific point in time for me. Its sharp guitars, understated vocals, and effortless cool bring back vivid memories of where I was in my life when I first heard it. The album feels tied to that period in a way that makes it difficult to separate the music from the memories. That connection also makes my opinion of it shift. Sometimes it feels like a genuinely great album, full of tight songwriting and an unmistakable atmosphere. Other times, it feels more like a great album for me because of what it represents personally. And occasionally, it is simply a collection of songs that brings back fond memories of a particular moment in my life. Even with that uncertainty, the album’s influence and consistency are undeniable. From the title track and “Last Nite” to “Someday” and “Hard to Explain,” it has a distinctive sound that still feels immediate and memorable. An 8.5/10 — sometimes a great album, sometimes a personal favorite, and always a powerful reminder of a certain time in my life.

a must listen and no skip album all the band members have so much chemistry with each other - fab's simple but energetic drums clashing (in a good way) with nikolai's bass, then albert and nick just ripping away on the guitars, with julian demonstrating how a voice can be an instrument too. catchy is the word i have for this album. i'm very sure there'll be certain lyrics that'll be stuck in your head

The Strokes are arguably the reason in the 2000s and even now there has been such a huge garage rock revival, thus making them one of the most influential bands of all time. With that being said I decided to go back to their roots and revisit Is This It to see if my opinions on this album have changed or not. Now I want to say one of my pet peeves is the microphone effect used by The Strokes here and I usually don't enjoy it, but since they popularized this audio effect I give them a pass on it. This album is still a blast nearly 20 years later and I have to say the energy everyone brings to the table here truly is indestructible. I don't get how anyone could hate this album, it's so well put together and such a great example of why garage rock/post-punk is such a great genre as a whole, it truly can be made into something spectacular. I really didn't realize just how fun this album is and I don't think I've heard an album I've smiled to this much in such a long time. I am happy The Strokes have stopped trying to top this album and pave their own new road now but it sure took them a while to get that memo they simply wouldn't beat this one.

Although this isn’t their best album (in my opinion), it is the most popular and says something in of its self. This album contains hit tracks and alternative ballads. Hope you enjoy it!

Scrappy and cool in a way that feels effortless even though it probably wasn't. Guitars are tight and kinda dry, drums just locked in the whole way through, nothing overplayed. Doesn't try to reinvent anything, just does the simple thing really well. Feels like a band who knew exactly what they wanted and didn't waste time getting there.
