Ok. So I bought this as a kid because of ‘You Can Call Me Al’ in ’86. But I didn’t REALLY listen to it until maybe 1991/92. I quickly realized some songwriting was different than others. When I HEARD the title track with fresh ears, it crushed me.

8.5/10 — An endlessly enjoyable album that always leaves me in a better mood. Graceland is one of those rare albums that feels completely cohesive from beginning to end. It’s adventurous, melodic, upbeat, and full of personality, blending Paul Simon’s songwriting with African and American musical influences in a way that feels both unique and effortless. What I love most about this album is how consistently enjoyable it is. There aren’t many songs I feel the need to skip, and the entire record flows together as a complete listening experience. From “The Boy in the Bubble” and “You Can Call Me Al” to “Diamonds on the Soles of Her Shoes” and the title track, there’s an incredible mix of energy, emotion, and musicianship. It’s also an album I find myself coming back to over and over again. Sometimes I’ll put it on simply knowing that, by the time it’s finished, I’m going to be in a better mood than when I started. That’s a pretty special quality for an album to have. 8.5/10 — a complete, endlessly enjoyable album that never seems to get old. Maybe not a perfect 10, but one I know I can always return to and feel better for having listened to.

Everytime I put this record on, it such lovely ride. Such a wonderful collection of beautiful and refreshing sounding songs. 'You Can Call Me All' isn't even the most impressive song.
